Spending lunch breaks alone at the desk? That's out of the question for Alex (Product Manager SO3 Software). Instead, he regularly invites his colleagues to join him at the table during breaks. However, this isn't just any table; it's the football table that found its home in the basement of the VESCON building several years ago. What his colleagues didn't initially realize was that when it came to table soccer, Alex was far from a beginner.
From being a youth coach in squash, table tennis, darts, bowling in the 2nd Bundesliga, swimming, to trampoline gymnastics, there's hardly a niche sport Alex hasn't tried. Nowadays, the multi-talent prefers swapping his desk for the table soccer. During his early days at VESCON, his colleagues were unaware of his hobby – until one day, everything changed abruptly.
"In my first few weeks at VESCON, a colleague proudly showed me the official tournament table in the basement of our office building. I was immediately challenged to my first 'duel'," Alex tells us. The opponent: Thomas, who had already secured second place in the European table soccer championship and was known as the "invincible one". "Everyone was convinced I was going to lose. It was unforgettable when, as a newcomer at VESCON, I emerged victorious from that duel!"
Starting his table soccer career as a hobby at the age of 14, he has been playing in the German Table Soccer Bundesliga for the St. Leon-Rot club near Walldorf for the past four years. However, one thing hasn't changed for Alex over the years: "Having fun always comes first for me. When we gather around the foosball tables during breaks, there's always a lot of laughter and chatter."
The room where the tables are located has now become a real place of exchange. In Alex's eyes, the familiar and relaxed environment is not only suitable for putting aside everyday stress: "You wouldn't believe how helpful it is to get together with colleagues in a playful, sporting way. It's not uncommon to come back to your desk with completely new energy and ideas and find solutions to your daily work issues right away!"
When Alex isn't showcasing his skills at the foosball table, he devotes himself at VESCON to the SO3-Software. As a Product Owner, his responsibilities extend beyond consulting potential clients to presenting and demonstrating the software under real conditions. Alongside his development team and clients, he makes creative decisions to further develop SO3, implementing new features tailored to the specific needs of customers.
